Mighty Big Glasses, Ferdinand!

There's a restaurant that's across the street from us, if by "across the street" you mean over one block, about a half-mile down the hill, and across the intersection. These nice folks have an occasional special that they e-mail us about, a prime rib sandwich for five bucks. Such a deal! We missed it the first time around, but decided to take them up on it the second time.

This is the kind of place that is nice to have in the neighborhood. Close by, pretty good food, and interesting ambience. They have a deck, and there was a portable bar on the deck and a fire pit fully stoked and blazing. But it was starting to sprinkle, so we headed for the Great Indoors. The waiter, who is also (along with his wife) the owner, handed us a menu, but we already knew what we were having. The Prime Rib Sandwich. And would we like a wine with that? Well, one wonders at this point if a bear might be determined to defecate in the woods, but -- as it turned out -- we did want wine, but we couldn't decide between a nice Pinot and a Primitivo. They rhyme, by the way.

The waiter brought us a taste of each, and by "taste" I mean a glass of wine just a little smaller than what we'd normally have at dinner. We went for the Pinot, which arrived promptly. In a Really Big Glass. The Prime Rib Sandwich arrived shortly thereafter, on a Really Big Plate. The sandwich itself was Tiny. Tiny but Tasty. But there really wasn't much of it, although there certainly was plenty of Pinot.

We polished off the Prime, played with the Pinot, and wearied of the alliteration, so we split a salad. (Noooooooo! There's no escape!) By this time, we'd finished the Pinot as well so -- at the suggestion of the waiter-who-is-also-the-owner, we split another glass of Pinot. And by "split" I mean the guy brought us two glasses that seemed to be the same size as the first ones.

So I'm a little wobbly this morning and I'm wearing the Neck Buddy and I'm headed for some kind of analgesic.

Good Pinot, though.
